Chief Drops by for a Surprise Visit to Crossing Guard Darlene Hoag’s Corner in Turtle Rock
On November 16, 2012, Turtle Rock Elementary celebrated Crossing Guard, Darlene Hoag’s 90th Birthday. The parents and students showered her with flowers, cards and gifts of thanks. Her decision to work after retirement is remarkable and the parents wanted to make sure she knows her dedication is not taken for granted. Looking at Darlene, you know that 90 is just a number. Her heart is full as she exhibits youthful enthusiasm for her service to the kids at Turtle Rock Elementary.
The celebration took Darlene by surprise, but not the Irvine World News! They were on hand and documented the occasion with a local news story. Chief Maggard was not available the day of the celebration but didn’t want to miss out the opportunity to participate it the celebration. Wednesday morning, January 16, he dropped by her corner for a visit and gave her another surprise.
Chief Maggard presented Darlene Hoag with a plaque that beautifully displays and will forever preserve her feature birthday story written by the Orange County Register. The plaque is the Chief’s way of personally thanking Darlene for her care for the children and for the outstanding way she represents the Irvine Police Department.
