Irvine Officers Collect 280 Pounds of Unwanted Drugs


Saturday April 30, 2011 the Irvine Police Department participated in the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA’s) second National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day.  Irvine’s collection site at the Lakeview Senior Center was staffed by Sergeant Maisano, Officers Mike Moore and Mike Frei as well as several Irvine Police Explorers.

This effort seeks to prevent prescription drug abuse and theft while providing for the safe and responsible disposal of potentially dangerous expired, Prescription medications that languish in home medicine cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse.  

This year, Irvine collected 280 pounds of unwanted drugs, preventing them from falling into the wrong hands and protecting the environment from their improper disposal.
