|Irvine has once again maintained its ranking as one of the safest cities in America according to Morgan Quitno Press. The ranking is based upon data provided by the FBI for the year 2005. |
“Community safety and education are two of the cornerstones that contribute to our high quality of life in Irvine,” said Mayor Beth Krom. “Our ability to maintain our safest city ranking as we grow is a testament to the benefits of good planning, and our steadfast commitment to invest in public safety.”
“This is a wonderful City-wide honor,” said Irvine Police Chief David L. Maggard Jr.
“Irvine is a safe city because of the commitment and professionalism of our officers and because of the support for public safety demonstrated by community leaders and collaborative partners.”
Morgan Quitno Press, a Kansas research and publishing firm, has published the “Safest Cities in America” report for the past 13 years. The report considers a city’s rate for six basic crime categories: murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, and motor vehicle theft. These six categories are then assessed in a weighted formula to ensure all cities are compared equally against the national average for a particular crime category.
